Software Engineer

Arnav
Bagmar

I am keen to building software for people who aren't being served by tech or innovate products for the future and right now, I'm building a marketplace bringing Haitian small businesses online.

About

Arnav Bagmar

I'm Arnav, a software engineer who'd rather ship something useful than something flashy. I study at the University of Florida and spend most of my time building things that help me learn and grow.

Right now, I'm building NOU, a marketplace designed for small businesses in Haiti. The users aren't tech experts and they use WhatsApp more than web browsers, so every feature has to simple to understand. It's the hardest thing I've been working on due to the vairous new technologies I'm learning.

Before that, I won a couple hackathons (GitFlow took 1st at ShellHacks, PowerLegal took 2nd at KnightHacks), built microservices at Prepify AI, and shipped React Native features at Biz4Group.

When I'm away you can proobably find me on a pickleball court, out for a run, or trying out new food places.

Experience

Oct 2025 — Present

Founder & Startup Developer

NOU

Building a marketplace for Haitian SMEs from building cart, checkout, WhatsApp order notifications. Making the new Amazon for Haiti.

Aug 2025 — Dec 2025

Software Engineering Intern

Prepify AI

Broke a monolith into microservices for faster response times. Built WebSocket-based real time feedback so users get interview coaching as they speak.

May — Aug 2025

Artificial Intelligence Intern

Biz4Group

Shipped React Native features for a customer service app across iOS and Android. First time ever getting into building mobile apps.

July — Sept 2024

Software Engineering Fellow

Headstarter

Fellowship where I went from tutorial projects to building production ready full-stack apps. This is where I started to learn to ship products instead of building.

Now

Currently building

NOU Marketplace — finishing final touches on the business side for them to see their personalized dashboard and product/inventory management. Getting close to production ready, hoping to launch in February.

Previously worked at

Prepify AI — built WebSocket-based real-time feedback for mock interviews. The main challenge was keeping latency under 200ms so coaching felt instant.

Currently learning

System design for distributed architectures. Also reading about building products for emerging markets.

Outside of code

Playing in a pickleball tournaments, training to get back to my high school run times, and just loving life.

Next up

Launching NOU's beta with real merchants in Haiti. Also hoping to build my own products with usefullness.

Thoughts

Writing about my life

Hackathons Changed How I Think About Shipping Code

Building GitFlow in 36 hours taught me more about tradeoffs than any classes. When the deadline is fast and you know time is not going to stop, you stop thinking about architecture and what’s viable, you only ask “What is actually the fastest path to something that would work?”. This mindset is what I use now, I stopped thinking “what if” to “what it actually is”.

The Case for Building Boring Software

The best tools I've built weren't even that fancy or insane. GatorPlan is a course scheduler and not exactly groundbreaking but UF students actually used it last semester. There's something satisfying about building something boring that people could use.
